Civic Studio needs you

Ed Gardiner is building Civic Studio; a place where anybody can share step-by-step instructions for activities with a social benefit. I think this is an idea with huge potential. Ed and his team are looking for feedback and ideas - I have no doubt you will have some to share when you find out more...

Many people in the world are taking action to improve the systems that surround them, from regenerating public spaces to growing the high street economy to solving local challenges. Ed and the team believe people everywhere have the potential to make a difference in their community. Their collective knowledge, skills and abilities are the building blocks of future action.

But the potential people have will only lead to action under conditions that are supportive of creativity and entrepreneurship. Current conditions are holding people back. There are many barriers to entry, a small number of organisations control the majority of resources and there is a lack of information about the support people want or have available to offer.

Civic Studio is an open marketplace where people can publish projects they have completed so that others can replicate them or adapt them to their circumstance. Anyone can discuss or give feedback on a project by commenting underneath or (in the future) rating it for quality.

We want to:

  1. Enable people to exchange the practical knowledge and resources required to understand problems or implement ideas.
  2. Help people develop the skills, abilities and traits related to creative achievement and entrepreneurial success.
  3. Provide an opportunity for people to understand, recognise and grow belief in how they can improve the world for others.

What is it?

Civic Studio is a concept for a new website where people can share step-by-step instruction for activities with a social benefit, what we’re calling recipes for good. It will be an open marketplace where people can publish activities they have done so that others can replicate them or adapt them to their circumstance. Anybody will be able to discuss or give feedback on a project but commenting underneath or rating it for quality.

Who’s it for?

Pretty much anyone. We believe people everywhere have the potential to make a different in their community. Their collective knowledge, skills and abilities are the building blocks of future action. We want to enable people to exchange the practical knowledge and resources required to understand community problems or implement new ideas.

What do we need?

We’re seeking the opinions of people who may use the concept in the future to understand the potential before developing it further. Take the survey and leave your email address at the end to keep you updated with further events and development.
